The minister, who was speaking in Portalegre at the Pledge of Honor ceremony of the 53rd GNR Guards Training Course, composed of 306 guards, stressed that the Government "is well aware" of the needs and investments in that sector.

"The (Government) is well aware of the needs and investment in technical, operational, infrastructure and, mainly, human resources, which necessarily involves dignifying their careers. As stated in the Government's program, dignifying careers and valuing the professional and remuneratory aspects of the men and women who serve in the security forces is a priority, stimulating and driving appropriate professional motivations from the base of the pyramid to the leadership," she said.

The Minister of Internal Administration also stated that "it is the Government's intention" to start a process to recover the attractiveness of security careers, namely through a salary review.

On Monday, Margarida Blasco announced that she will present a proposal on May 2nd to grant a subsidy to PSP and GNR members, which she believes will satisfy the police officers.

"In this protocol that we are negotiating today, the discussion of the risk subsidy, which is a horizontal matter and which the unions consider a priority and which we, the Government, will take into account, was a priority," Margarida Blasco told journalists at the end of the meetings with the GNR's socio-professional associations and PSP unions.

The minister clarified that she does not yet know whether it will be a risk subsidy or a mission supplement, and a formula will then be found that applies to the PSP and GNR.

Margarida Blasco declined to advance the amount and the terms under which the subsidy will be granted, referring to the proposal that will be presented on May 2nd.

"We are working very hard to present this proposal to the unions with all the conditions and what we understand to be the satisfaction of all police professionals," she said.

The minister said that a multidisciplinary team was created between the Ministries of Finance and Internal Administration, which are working together.

This was the second meeting between the new minister and the PSP and GNR structures, and the proposal for a negotiation protocol and the respective matters to be negotiated were presented at the Monday meeting.

The Minister of Internal Administration also said that the project for the new GNR training and territorial command center to be built in Portalegre "is only awaiting" the Court of Auditors' approval, with an investment of one million euros.
