In a statement that Lusa agency had access to, the CT considers that the "workers’ expectations were completely frustrated with the vote and with the arguments presented in the debate".

"Even more so after all the conversations and hearings that the various parties had with the representative bodies of the TSF workers", reads the statement.

For the CT of TSF, when it is argued that the work of the permanent commission in this case is not exhausted, it recalls that "the doubts raised were even greater after the entire hearing process".

"When arguments of trivialization of the instrument of parliamentary commissions of inquiry are invoked, TSF workers cannot help but consider that the instruments exist to be used, especially when there are doubts about the actions of public entities", reinforces the CT.

"'Democracy dies in darkness' is the motto of the Washington Post, a world reference in journalism. It is a pity that today, in the Assembly of the Republic, some parties did not help to turn on the light. On the side of the TSF workers, there is the certainty that we will continue to be firm and demand, from all benches, the promises made to follow up on this case and to defend strong and independent journalism", concludes the statement.

The proposals of the Left Bloc and the PAN for the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the Global Media group were today rejected in plenary, with votes against from the PSD, PS and CDS-PP.

The BE, PAN, PCP and Liberal Initiative voted in favor, while Chega abstained.

The proposals for a parliamentary inquiry had as their object the purchase of Global Media Group (owner of titles such as Diário de Notícias, Jornal de Notícias, TSF, O Jogo) by the World Opportunity Fund (based in the tax haven Bahamas), the management acts and the instability generated in the group as well as the performance of the Regulatory Entity for the Social Communication (ERC).

In September 2023, the WOF group entered Global Media and, with the change of ownership and the executive management of João Paulo Fafe, the group entered a period of great instability, with delayed salaries, dismissal proceedings and exchanges of accusations between shareholders.

The crisis in the group led to public demonstrations of concern, including from the Government and the President of the Republic, and the ERC suspended, in March, WOF's voting and property rights in the Global Media group.

Earlier, in February, an agreement was made for the purchase of some Global Media titles by a group of investors and businessmen led by Diogo Freitas, awaiting the decision of the regulators.

Global Media and Páginas Civilizadas are also shareholders in the Lusa agency, and at the time there was a proposal from the PS Government for the State to acquire the entire news agency, which did not go ahead because the PSD did not give its final agreement (the PSD justified the lack of clarification of aspects of the business).

The proposals for the commission of inquiry that were rejected today also aimed to clarify the Lusa process.
