Just as there are species of plants that can absorb moisture, there are others that help eliminate unpleasant odours. This means they are perfect for having in rooms such as the kitchen. Radek Babicek, a plant expert, quoted in Women & Home, listed five air-purifying plants that are ideal for this part of the house.

Plants that help eliminate unpleasant odours in the kitchen:
- Ivy. "It is one of the best for helping to reduce indoor air pollutants, as well as mold and bacteria";
- Spider plant (chlorophytum comosum). "They are great at removing bad odours, fumes and pollutants from the air in your kitchen";
- Snake plant (dracaena trifasciata). It is a toxic plant for cats, but it makes a great addition to any kitchen;
- Aloe vera. It can work wonders in the kitchen and, as an added bonus, the gel inside the leaves can help treat cuts and burns;
- Aspidistra elatior. "It can tolerate more than the average houseplant, including low light, temperature fluctuations and infrequent watering".
