Coca-Cola Strike in Palmela? "It is essential to create conditions", asks CGTP
The CGTP secretary-general, Tiago Oliveira, today criticized the stance of companies such as the Coca-Cola factory in Palmela, which he accuses of not valuing workers and of proposing very low wage increases.

"A company of this size, with this responsibility, is putting forward a proposal that falls far short of what the workers were demanding. That is why the workers are demonstrating in this 24-hour strike, fighting for better wages; it is essential to value wages," said Tiago Oliveira.
The leader of the CGTP trade union centre was speaking to the Lusa agency during the protest by dozens of workers who gathered at the gates of the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Portugal Unipessoal, Lda. factory in Azeitão, in the municipality of Palmela, district of Setúbal.
"It is essential to create the conditions so that workers can have a dignified life, a comfortable life. It is necessary to value these workers and forget this idea that profit is more important than the life of each one of us. We have to fight, as these workers are doing, for a better life, with decent and fair wages," stressed Tiago Oliveira.
Coca-Cola workers are observing a 24-hour strike today, called by the Federation of Agriculture, Food, Beverage, Hotel and Tourism Unions of Portugal (FESAHT), for "decent wage increases and the negotiation of the list of demands".
According to union sources, the strike, which includes all workers of the company providing services on national territory, paralysed production in the first shift (00:00/08:00) of the Palmela factory.
