"The lack of orders is causing some companies to halt hiring," said Klaus Wohlrabe, director of surveys at ifo, in a statement released today.
"But service providers in some sectors, such as data processing and tourism, are hiring people," he added.
Recruitment plans have been reduced in the manufacturing industry, which also intends to reduce its workforce, and this is particularly true in energy-intensive industries, the institute said in the statement, stressing that in trade, the trend towards reducing the workforce is similar.
The service providers' barometer rose slightly, with data processing and tourism being the driving forces in this area, ifo said, stressing that in construction, the indicator rose, but even so, the poor order situation, especially in civil construction, is forcing some companies to cut jobs.
