German Business Confidence Rises for Third Straight Month
Business confidence in Germany rose for the third month in a row in April, driven by more satisfied managers, brighter expectations and a stabilizing economy, especially in the services sector.

According to the Ifo Institute for Economic Research, the business confidence index in Germany rose to 89.4 points in April from 87.9 points in March.
The assessment of the current situation improved to 88.9 points in April from 88.1 points in March, while expectations also rose by 2.2 points to 89.9 points, the highest level of the year.
By sector, confidence among manufacturers increased due to significantly less pessimistic expectations, although companies assessed their current situation as worse than before, order books declined further and there are no prospects of increased production.
In the service sector, the business climate "improved markedly" due to a better assessment of the current situation, although expectations remained largely unchanged and companies continued to be sceptical about the coming months.
The business climate also improved in trade, after expectations improved significantly, although they remain pessimistic overall.
In addition, these companies were somewhat less satisfied with their current business.
In construction, the business climate improved for the third time in a row, thanks to significantly less pessimistic expectations, although these companies assessed their current situation as somewhat worse and many of them reported a lack of orders.
