Centeno opens a photographic exhibition at a branch of the Bank of Portugal
The Governor of the Bank of Portugal inaugurated today, at the bank's branch in Faro, the exhibition "Let us, ordinary citizens, take the floor and the initiative", accompanied by the president of the José Saramago Foundation, Pilar del Rio.

The exhibition was first shown last December in Lisbon to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 25th anniversary of Saramago's Nobel Prize, and also to make known the Universal Charter of Duties and Obligations of Human Beings.
On that occasion, the governor of the Bank of Portugal, Mário Centeno, stressed, in his brief statements to journalists, that the exhibition "demonstrates the importance that the institution has given to its relationship with the community".
"Let us, ordinary citizens, take the floor and the initiative. With the same vehemence and the same force with which we claim our rights, let us also claim the duty of our duties. Perhaps the world can start to become a little better", said José Saramago, in Stockholm, in 1998.
Present at the inauguration in Faro, the widow of the Portuguese Nobel laureate and president of the Saramago Foundation, Pilar del Rio, regretted that the Universal Charter of Duties and Obligations of Human Beings, which originated from the writer's appeal in his Stockholm speech, still does not have the visibility that was intended.
The exhibition with images by Spanish photojournalist Gervasio Sánchez will then travel to other district capitals where the Bank of Portugal has branches.
This afternoon, Mário Centeno will return to the land where he lived until he was 15, Vila Real de Santo António, also in the Algarve, to give an open class at the city's secondary school.
