German football is mourning the death of Bernd Holzenbein, a former glory who was crowned world champion in the service of the country, in 1974, in Munich, winning the penalty that opened the way to the triumph over the Netherlands, in the final, by 1-2.

The news was given, early on Tuesday morning, by Eintracht Frankfurt, the club he represented between 1967 and 1981, and in which he continues to hold the record for the highest scorer in history, with 183 accurate shots over 470 official matches, through a note shared on the official platforms.

"Bernd Holzenbein had a significant influence on our Eintracht Frankfurt for almost 60 years. He also represents the 'Golden 1970s'", began by stating the spokesman for the direction of the Germanic team, Axel Hellmann.

"He also played a fundamental role, as vice-president. With Bernd Holzenbein, we lost not only one of the great reference figures of our club, but also a loyal employee and a great friend", he completed.
