Viktor Gyokeres, on Friday night, increased to four the consecutive games in Sporting's service without scoring... goals. The Swedish forward even celebrated the Lions' fourth goal in their visit to Gil Vicente (4-0), in Barcelos, but it was Andrew, the opponent's goalkeeper, who put the ball in the net, thus confirming the greatest 'drought' by the ex-Coventry since he arrived in Portugal, last summer.
With 37 goals in 44 games with Sporting's jersey, Gyokeres had never gone so long without scoring. The longest 'drought' period happened in August, when he drew a blank against Sp. Braga, Famalicão and Casa Pia.
In October, he would once again go three consecutive games without scoring any goals, but with a detail that made all the difference. He received an expulsion order in the second game of this series, against Rakow, for the Europa League, just eight minutes into the game held in Poland.
At this point, the 25-year-old Swedish international signs the longest period without goals, and more than 3600 minutes have passed, now aiming at Famalicão, Sporting's next opponent, in a delayed game of the 20th round of the I League that will (finally) be played next Tuesday. Will Vila Nova de Famalicão be the place where Gyokeres will put an end to the goal fast?
