PCP calls for the resumption of "hope in April" and criticises those who "do everything to destroy"
Lisbon, 25 Apr 2024 (Lusa) - The PCP secretary-general today criticised a minority "that has done everything it can to destroy achievements and recover lost power", seeking to "falsify and rewrite history", and asked that "hope in April" be resumed.

In a speech at the solemn session of April 25, in parliament, Paulo Raimundo stressed that, 50 years ago, the Carnation Revolution "enshrined concrete freedoms and opened doors to political, social, economic and cultural democracy".
"It enshrined political, social, labor and civilizational rights, redistributed wealth more fairly, imposed social justice, equality, land to those who work it, freed the country from monopoly control, built local power and regional autonomy, enshrined in law equality between men and women and ended the colonial war", he said.
According to the communist leader, the Revolution "opted for a society at the service of the majority in confrontation with the interests of a minority".
"This revolution that did everything and does to destroy achievements and recover lost power, that did everything and does to falsify and rewrite history. Revolution that was a dream, realization and construction, was values and hope in a better life that the counterrevolution and right-wing politics seek to deny", he criticized.
For Paulo Raimundo, "April is not the majority of young people earning a thousand euros a month", it is "the youth having the conditions to live, work and make their life in their own country".
"April is the NHS and guaranteeing, from it, access to health for all. It is the right to public school and to the highest levels of education for all. It is the right to housing, not to the protection of banks and speculators", he stressed.
April, he continued, "is against all types of discrimination" and "rejects hatred, racism and xenophobia", in addition to having freed "the country from fascism and this regime of organized and silenced corruption".
"April is the path that must be resumed, putting an end to the cycle of right-wing politics that has led the country to growing inequalities. This is the great challenge that is posed to democrats and patriots, to workers and to the people, to all those who live and work here", he said.
This, the communist leader considered, "is above all a task for the youth, those who were born and raised after the Revolution, the children of the dawn".
"The task of taking into their own hands the realization of that April of rights, dreams and fulfillment", he said.
