According to SPAIC’s forecasts for the week between April 26 and May 2, "there will be a considerable reduction in the concentration of pollen in the atmosphere of Continental Portugal, with a low to moderate risk for those allergic to pollen".

This reduction is expected to occur thanks to the "atmosphere washing" effect, which is caused by the precipitation, which is expected to occur in Continental Portugal throughout the week.

According to Pollen Bulletin No. 06, sent to the Lusa agency, all regions of the Continent and the Islands are expected to record "low to moderate pollen concentration in the air".

In the atmosphere of the Continent, the pollen grains from cypress trees, pine trees, oaks, holm oaks and cork oaks and from grasses, plantain, nettle, sorrel and urticaceae (including pellitory) stand out.

In particular, in the regions of Algarve, Lisbon and Setúbal, the pollination of chenopodium is observed, and the first pollen grains from the olive tree are also beginning to appear in these regions, including the Beira Litoral region.

In the regions of the North and the Center of the country, the pollination of birch is observed.

In the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores, the pollen present in the atmosphere is predominantly from pine and cypress trees (and/or cryptomeria in the Azores) and from nettle herbs (including pellitory), plantain and grasses.
