In a statement sent to newsrooms, these environmental activists demand to "immediately stop all unnecessary flights, particularly Lisbon - Porto; stop all advertising and sponsorships that legitimize the fossil market in all public spaces; a drastic reduction in the aviation industry; and the cancellation of the new airport, as it is a project, like any project that increases emissions, of death and climate collapse".

Among the new messages placed in the advertising spaces at the Cais do Sodré and Praça da Figueira bus stops, one can read: "Public space free of fossil fuels", "More airports: trips to climate collapse", "New destination: direct flight to climate chaos" and "End fossil fuel advertising".

According to a note from Climáximo, the initiative is part of the international week of action against advertising, sponsorship and 'greenwashing' of airlines, coordinated by the organization Stay Grounded and the Badvertising project.

Contacted by Lusa, the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) said that it had not yet been aware of the situation.

Climáximo spokesperson Leonor Canadas pointed to the profits of companies and world governments at the expense of the climate crisis, but did not forget a group of 11 activists who will begin to be tried on Monday at the Justice Campus in Lisbon for their protests in recent months, announcing the holding of "April Assemblies" to show solidarity and reflect on new actions.

"While they go unpunished for their crimes against humanity, those who fight for life and peacefully resist the destruction of everything that matters will, on the eve of April 25, be tried and possibly sentenced to a year in prison," she said, in statements quoted in the group's statement.
