French President Emmanuel Macron called on Tuesday for a review of European trade policy to "defend the interests" of the continent, as China and the United States "no longer respect" the rules.
"It cannot work if we are the only ones in the world to respect trade rules as they were written 15 years ago," Macron said in a speech seen as his entry into the campaign for June's European elections, in which his party is trailing in the polls.
He added: "The Chinese, the Americans, no longer respect them, by subsidising critical sectors."
