Ruben Aguiar's wife reacts to the conviction: "He has suffered enough"
The singer was sentenced to five years and six months in prison.

Ruben Aguiar was recently sentenced to five years and six months in prison for the crime of aggravated assault and serious bodily harm. In April of last year, the singer ran over a man after an altercation at a gas station and then left the scene without providing any assistance.
As Ruben's lawyer had already told the program 'Linha Aberta', on the day the sentence was read, the artist did not react in the best way to the decision, which he considers to be unfair and disproportionate to the situation. This feeling was now confirmed by the Madeiran singer's wife, Isabel Pinto, in a new interview with 'Dois às 10'.
"Ruben has suffered enough," Isabel began by saying, in conversation with reporter Bruno Caetano. "Ruben was assaulted inside the prison, he was burned inside... He has suffered enough, I think it's enough. If he was going to be punished, he has already been punished enough. He deserves a second chance," she added.
Further on, Isabel revealed that the court had been asked to allow Ruben to leave prison so that he could participate in some shows. "He is our only source of income. We have our expenses and we have been enduring this whole year, but it gets to a point where it's no longer possible," she confessed.
In the same interview, Isabel stressed that there was no intentional hit-and-run and that the alleged victim, contrary to what was said, was not facing away from the car at the time of the hit-and-run.
It is important to remember that Ruben Aguiar denies that there was any intention to run over the man and assures that he did not realize that he had done so, which is why he left the scene.
