Villas-Boas wants to implement a new sports management model by 2025

The implementation of a new management paradigm from the training to the main football team of FC Porto should be completed by 2025, estimates André Villas-Boas, candidate for the club's presidency, in the elections of April 27.

According to the electoral program of list B, to which the Lusa agency had access today, this is the first of five strategic goals in the 10-year vision presented by the former 'blue and white' coach, whose "absolute priority" will be the "sporting philosophy of the club".

The football structure will be led by the sports director, whose name will be announced on Thursday, and should focus on the former Spanish international Andoni Zubizarreta, who had already worked with André Villas-Boas at the French team Marseille, between 2019 and 2020.

Under his authority there will be directors for the areas of professional football, scouting, training, performance and women's football, interconnected in an organizational model capable of "reflecting the complexity and multidimensionality of today's football and, at the same time, stressing the importance of having the right people in the right places at all times".

Four of these directors are still unknown, but the program proposes Pedro Silva to head a performance office that is transversal to all levels of the 'dragons'.

From 2025 to 2027, André Villas-Boas wants an FC Porto with renovated infrastructures and that supports its appreciation in training in all sports, a goal enhanced by the construction of a high-performance center for professional teams in Olival, in land adjacent to the current PortoGaia Sports Training and Formation Center.

The project will have a pavilion for the sports, including futsal, whose short-term vision varies between the parallel development of young people in the courts and in football up to 12 years old and studies for the solo entry of futsal in the under-15 and under-17 levels.

Also pointing to the creation of under-17, under-19 and senior women's football teams for the next season, the list "There is only one Porto" intends to study the hypothesis of bringing back athletics and men's volleyball, and their respective youth categories, in 2025/26.

The third axis of André Villas-Boas' vision advocates for a strong and valued brand in the market between 2026 and 2028, based on consistent participations in international reference competitions and framed by good corporate governance practices.

A non-executive ethics committee, a code of conduct transversal to the structure of the FC Porto Group and a transparency portal are some proposals of list B, which aims to strengthen the club's relations with national and international football regulators.

The economic and financial restructuring is another priority of André Villas-Boas and must be consolidated from 2028 to 2032, "being essential to find new sources of revenue, reduce operating costs and start a trajectory of debt reduction" to mitigate dependence on UEFA funds and balance the accounts, without limiting sporting success.

Rigorous management, enhancement of operating revenues and generation of results with the appreciation of assets are ways to redefine this financial policy, whose priority will be given to the shortening of liabilities, resulting from the "renegotiation of deadlines and debt service", in order to ensure the maintenance of the club's current ownership model.

Promoting stimuli in the relationship with members and fans and a digital transformation of various areas of the FC Porto Group, Villas-Boas trusts that the 'dragons' will be a model inside and outside the country from 2032 to 2034, integrating the top 10 of the European club ranking.

"The program is not just a strategy to win these elections. It is a vision, a commitment and, above all, the personification of the passion that we share for FC Porto, combined with the demand and responsibility inherent to the presidency of the club", he pointed out.

The elections of the FC Porto social bodies for the 2024-2028 four-year period are disputed by three candidacies, headed by the current 'blue and white' president, Pinto da Costa (list A), André Villas-Boas (B) and Nuno Lobo (C), businessman and teacher, also including an independent list to the Superior Council led by Miguel Brás da Cunha (D).

The electoral act will take place on April 27, between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, at a time when Pinto da Costa is serving his 15th consecutive term, since 1982, which gives him the status of manager with the most titles and longevity in world football.
