Pinto da Costa gave an interview to Rádio Renascença, published in full this Wednesday, giving an account of several topics related to the current situation of FC Porto, highlighting the current third place in the I League (with no mathematical chance of fighting with Benfica and Sporting for the title), a position that could even give access to the Champions League, in case of the success of the incarnate rival in the Europa League.

"The team has value, it is going through a bad moment due to strange factors that are not worth, once again, enumerating. Now, a team that did what it did in the Champions League with Arsenal and that beat Benfica 5-0 a little over a month ago is not a team without quality. There have been factors and we are mentalizing and preparing the players to abstract themselves from that and just go to the game for the game. I am convinced that against Vitória SC, in a very important game, which opens the doors to the Cup final and then to be in the Jamor stadium, the team will respond and show its real value", he began by saying.

"Benfica winning the Europa League? Regardless of whether or not it opens [a vacancy in the Champions League], I would always like any Portuguese team to win an international competition. Of course I'm not going to be a hypocrite. And Portugal, I want Benfica to always lose, but, when any national team is playing abroad, I want them to win. Obviously I wanted them to win", he then stressed, about the possibilities of FC Porto qualifying for the Champions League.

"FC Porto is not waiting for that. Now, if that comes as an addition, very good. What I want is for all the teams that are in international competitions to go as far as possible and, if they can win them, great, not only for the club, but also for Portuguese football", he completed on the subject.
