Xabi Alonso entered the history of German football this Sunday, by leading Bayer Leverkusen to their first ever national championship title, thanks to a 5-0 thrashing of Werder Bremen.

After the final whistle at the BayArena, Lothar Matthaus, a 'living legend' of Bayern Munich (a club he represented in 406 official matches, scoring a total of 100 goals), did not spare any compliments for the 'pharmacists', who he considered to be fair winners of the Bundesliga.

"I have rarely seen a season like this from a team. Such absolute dominance, and not just in terms of results, has only been seen with Bayern Munich, under Pep Guardiola", he began by stating, on the German television station Sky Sport.

"It reminds me a little of Barcelona, in terms of the style of play with Messi, Iniesta and Xavi. A lot of ball possession, quick changes and one-touch football are also the strengths of Bayer Leverkusen", added the now sports commentator.
