Andy Cole gave an extensive interview to British bookmaker Betfred this Thursday, in which he addressed several issues related to 'his' Manchester United, including the interest in signing João Neves.

The latest reports from the sports press indicate that Benfica will only agree to let the Portuguese international go for the €120 million stipulated in his termination clause, so, in the opinion of the former striker, the Red Devils may have no alternative but to activate it.

"If the player you want is worth £105 or £110 million [€122.7 or €128.5 million], and he's someone you really want, then you're going to have to pay it. If you believe he's going to improve the team, you're going to have to pay whatever it takes," he began by saying.

"Nowadays, transfer fees are absolutely unbelievable, but if you want someone, you're going to have to pay for it. Since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford, there's been a Manchester United tax, and the club has spent a lot on reinforcements," he continued.

"You say to yourself 'Wow, they paid too much for him', and then, before you know it, one or two years later, they're sold for less than half of what they paid. Manchester United are not in a position to do more than they have done with financial fair play," he added.
