In an "email" sent to AFP, a spokesperson for the platform, owned by the Chinese group ByteDance, added that the proposed ban "would devastate 7 million businesses and close a platform that contributes $24 billion a year to the US economy."
The House of Representatives today approved a text that gives TikTok an ultimatum, providing for the application to be banned in the United States if it does not cut ties with the company ByteDance and more broadly with China. The video platform is accused by US officials of allowing Beijing to spy on and manipulate its 170 million users in the United States. The ban will have to be validated by the Senate.
