"The speech of Mr. President of the Republic in this ceremony of the 50th anniversary of April 20th was practically a historical review" without "much content, only with historical content", stated Pedro Pinto.

The deputy was speaking to journalists at the end of the solemn ceremony that marks the 50th anniversary of April 25th, in the Assembly of the Republic.

The parliamentary leader of Chega pointed out that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa "did not touch on the subject that he had touched on yesterday", of the "supposed debts" of Portugal "with our former colonies or with the colonial past", indicating that the party expected him to do so.

Pedro Pinto said he was "very, very proud" of the History of Portugal and asked the Head of State "to retract" for having acknowledged on Tuesday Portugal's responsibilities for crimes committed during the colonial era and suggested the payment of reparations for the mistakes of the past.

"If he did not do so today, he will have to retract before the Portuguese on another occasion", he said, indicating that the party will "insist on the issue again during the next week".

Asked how Chega will do this concretely, Pedro Pinto said that asking to be received by the President of the Republic "is one of the things that is on the table".

"During the next few hours, there will be news about this, we will unite the leadership of the parliamentary group and we will talk about it", he said.

In his speech during the solemn session in parliament, the president of Chega accused the President of the Republic of betraying the Portuguese by defending the payment of reparations for crimes of the colonial era, considering that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa should "love the History" of Portugal.

Still on the speech of the President of the Republic, the parliamentary leader of Chega refused that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa's appeal for "always preferring democracy, even imperfect, to dictatorship" was addressed to Chega.

Asked if he considers that Marcelo Rebelo de Susa ignored Chega in his speech, he answered negatively, arguing that "certainly the President of the Republic had already brought the speech written from home".

Regarding the Chega deputies leaving the session room while deputies from the PS, BE, PCP, Livre and the PAN parliamentarian sang "Grândola, Vila Morena", one of the password songs of the April Revolution, Pedro Pinto justified that "the solemn session ends with the national anthem".

"The national anthem ended, the Chega deputies left the room. Perfectly normal, it's something we always do", he said.

Pedro Pinto also said that Chega will not participate in the traditional parade on Avenida da Liberdade, but will be at the ceremony that will take place at the Centro Cultural de Belém and also at the dinner at the Palácio da Ajuda.
