Manuel Coelho indicated that the accident occurred between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. local time, one hour less than Lisbon, in the Kuiseb Valley, on the way to the largest sand dunes of Sossus Vley in the Namibian desert.

The accident involved two buses, carrying 40 tourists, with at least 22 Portuguese tourists in one of the vehicles, according to the Portuguese counselor.

"I confirm that there was an accident between two buses and apparently a third vehicle in a place where there is no internet network, the information is precarious, we know that one bus was carrying 22 Portuguese citizens, two of whom died on the spot, we also know that a third person died on the way to Walvis Bay hospital, the nearest city, but at this moment we do not know the nationality of the latter", the Portuguese counselor told Lusa.

As previously stated to Lusa by Secretary of State José Cesário, there are people of various nationalities involved in the accident.

The group of Portuguese tourists, from the north of the country, was traveling through a travel agency, added José Cesário, emphasizing that he has been following the situation.
