Body of 54-year-old fisherman recovered in Freixo de Espada à Cinta
The body of a 54-year-old fisherman was recovered early this evening, after having been reported missing on the banks of the Douro Internacional, in Mazouco, in the municipality of Freixo de Espada à Cinta, a source from the GNR told Lusa.

Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Bragança, Apr 23, 2024 (Lusa) -- The body of a 54-year-old fisherman was recovered early this evening, after having been reported missing on the banks of the Douro Internacional, in Mazouco, in the municipality of Freixo de Espada à Cinta, a GNR source told Lusa.
Speaking to Lusa, the Public Relations officer of the GNR Command in Bragança, Lieutenant-Colonel Eduardo Lima, explained that after the divers team was deployed, during the operations, it was confirmed that the body belonged to a male individual, who had been reported missing early in the afternoon.
"After the search, it was confirmed that it was the person reported missing around 2:30 pm, a 54-year-old man," explained the officer of the Guard.
According to Lieutenant-Colonel Eduardo Lima, since the authorities were alerted, several rescue teams were deployed to the site, to try to locate the missing person. In this sense, searches were carried out, both in the aquatic environment and by land," explained the senior officer.
A team of GNR divers, dog units and a drone were deployed to the site and searched for several hours along the banks of the Douro River.
There were also GNR military personnel and firefighters searching this area of the Douro River, near the village of Mazouco.
A source from the Douro Sub-Regional Emergency and Protection Command said that the firefighters of Freixo de Espada à Cinta were the first to arrive on the scene, after the alert, and immediately began the search, supported by a boat.
