The EU Council today reviewed the sanctions regime against Myanmar, extending until 30 April 2025 the freezing of assets and the prohibition on making funds or economic resources available to those listed, while maintaining the prohibition on individuals entering the bloc's territory.
The sanctions also include an embargo on arms and equipment, including communications equipment, that could be used for internal repression.
The 27 member states also renew their condemnation of the military coup and reiterate their concern about the ongoing increase in violence and the evolution towards a protracted conflict in the country, denouncing the repressive actions of the military against the people of Myanmar.
The EU adopted the first sanctions package in April 2013, which was extended in 2021 to those responsible for the coup in February of that year.
