Beijing's foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin criticized Stoltenberg's remarks as "intended solely to shift blame and fan tensions against" the People's Republic of China.

"These are baseless accusations," Wang added, before assuring that the country "is neither the initiator nor a party to this crisis," referring to the war in Ukraine.

In statements released by the Chinese state-run newspaper Global Times, the spokesperson stressed that the People's Republic of China "provides no military assistance to the parties involved, and strictly controls any export" of so-called "dual-use items, such as drones" that can be used for both civilian and military purposes.

Stoltenberg stated that China is "facilitating Russia's war economy by providing high-tech and advanced components, and they are also providing satellite navigation and imagery to Russia."

"All of this helps Moscow to wage its war against Ukraine, to inflict more suffering, more death, more destruction," Stoltenberg said during a visit to Germany.

"China cannot at the same time say that it wants to contribute to a peaceful solution while at the same time continuing to fuel the war in Ukraine," Stoltenberg added in a speech at the German-American Partnership Forum Atlantik-Brücke.
