The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, downplayed the US aid to Kyiv and accused the United States of becoming involved in the conflict, according to the French news agency.

The US State Department announced on Wednesday that the United States had sent ATACMS missiles to Ukraine in February "at the direct request of President" Joe Biden.

But according to Peskov, "this will not change the outcome of the special military operation", the euphemism used by the Kremlin to refer to the Russian offensive against Ukraine launched more than two years ago.

The missiles recently delivered to the Ukrainian army have a range of more than 300 km. They respond to a long-standing demand from Ukraine to be able to strike Russian supply routes, depots and military headquarters well behind the front lines.

"The United States is directly involved in this conflict and has taken a path that aims to increase the range of weapons systems," the Kremlin spokesman said, quoted by AFP, in a statement to journalists.
