BNP Paribas profit falls 2.2% to March
BNP Paribas on Thursday reported a 3.103 billion euro ($3.3 billion) net profit for the first quarter, down 2.2% from the same period in 2023, when it benefited from strong trading activity.

In a statement, the French bank said that gross operating income (EBITDA) rose by 1.6% to 4,546 million euros.
From January to March, revenue fell by 0.4% to 12,483 million euros, which BNP Paribas attributed to the high base of comparison in the first three months of 2023.
However, operating expenses fell by a slightly higher 1.5% to 7,937 million euros, which allowed for the increase in EBITDA.
Based on these results, which BNP Paribas CEO Jean-Laurent Bonnafé described as "good", the bank confirmed its financial targets for this year, which include an increase in revenue of more than 2% compared to 2023 and an increase in net income.
