Netherlands Club Loses 18 Points, Has... Negative Score
Vitesse no longer has any mathematical chance of securing permanence in the top tier of Dutch football.

The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) announced this Friday that it has penalized Vitesse with an 18-point deduction for "repeatedly failing to meet licensing requirements", which transformed the 17 points it had accumulated this season, in last place in the Dutch championship, into a negative score (-1), so the Arnhem club already knows that it will be relegated to the second division.
"The amount of the sanction is based on the exceptional seriousness and extent of the violations of the licensing system. This includes the provision of incorrect information that was important for the forensic investigation into possible violations of sanctions legislation and the withholding of information that was important for assessing the continuity of Vitesse", can be read in the statement from the body that oversees football in the Netherlands.
"In addition, the Licensing Committee will assess other possible violations in the next period. In this context, additional information from Vitesse is expected first. The Licensing Committee will state its position again if additional sanctions are imposed", added the Dutch Federation.
It should be noted that the historic Dutch club has been playing in the top tier of Dutch football for 35 years, uninterruptedly, but no longer has any mathematical chance, given the deduction of 18 points, to fight for permanence.
