"Dear farmers...". Hummels eyes England after 'dark' week

Mats Hummels took to social media on Friday to take a 'swipe' at English football, following what has been a week to forget in European competition.

"Good harvesting this week my fellow farmers," wrote the Germany international, in reference to the Bundesliga often being labelled the 'Farmers League' in England due to its perceived lack of competition.

On Wednesday, Manchester City and Arsenal were dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively, while on Thursday, Atalanta knocked Liverpool out of the Europa League and Bayer Leverkusen saw off West Ham in the Europa Conference League.

It means that the only English side left in a European semi-final - in this case the Europa Conference League - is Aston Villa, who overcame Paulo Fonseca's Lille.
