"This call is addressed to everyone, but especially to the younger generations because no one defends what they do not know and, therefore, we have to teach them what the meaning and importance of April 25th was", said Luís Garcia, quoted in a press release issued by the office of the presidency of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores (ALRAA).

For the president of the Azorean parliament, who participated today in the solemn session commemorating the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974, in the Assembly of the Republic, in Lisbon, "the April Revolution was a remarkable and decisive moment for the lives of the Portuguese because it opened the country's doors to Democracy and, in the Azores, to our Autonomy".

Luís Garcia stressed the topicality of this "valuable" legacy that "can in no way be forgotten".

"We can never think that Democracy, Freedom and Autonomy were gifts. They were conquests that must be passed on to everyone, especially the young, so that they understand the importance of these values, instilling in them the mission of defending and strengthening them, stressed the president of the Azorean parliament, quoted in the note.

The president of the Azorean parliament recalled the initiatives that have been developed by ALRAA, within the scope of the 50th anniversary of April 25, with young people, through the organization of talks and educational and recreational activities that allow them to know the reality of the country before and after the Carnation Revolution.
