"Everything registered in his name and in the name of his wife, as well as in the name of his ex-wives and his five children, including adopted ones, has been seized by a court order in the capital as a precautionary measure in case Ivanov is found guilty," a police source told Russia's TASS news agency.

Courts have also ordered the arrest of two businessmen who allegedly bribed the deputy defense minister and who have already been detained. Ivanov is in charge of construction and renovation of Defense Ministry infrastructure.

Although it has not been officially confirmed, the press estimates that the amount of bribes received by the deputy defense minister between 2018 and 2023 exceeds $10 million.

The Kremlin declined to comment on the arrest, but assured that the contracts that were being managed by the detainee will be executed.

Russia's Investigative Committee has accused Ivanov of receiving a large bribe, a crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

The 48-year-old deputy minister was detained in his office on Tuesday after participating in a meeting of the military leadership, chaired by Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.

However, the independent Russian press in exile has stated that Ivanov was in fact arrested for treason and that the accusation of bribery is just a cover-up.

Although he is not a career military man, Ivanov, like many other senior Russian officials, is subject to Western sanctions due to the war in Ukraine.

In 2022, the Anti-Corruption Fund of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny denounced, in one of its investigations, the luxurious life of the deputy minister both in Russian territory and in Europe.
