The initiative, which starts at 9:30 am, is from the National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Young People (CNPDPCJ), which, in a statement, explains that it has the collaboration of the Directorate-General for Schools (DGEstE) and the Lisbon City Council.

The National Commission explains that in order to mark the month of prevention of child abuse, it promotes an awareness campaign against abuse every year, "practices that are very harmful to children and can leave deep marks on their development".

"They happen in different contexts and are transversal to all strata of the population, taking on many forms: neglect, abandonment, physical and psychological abuse, sexual abuse", says the organization.

It points out that protecting children is everyone's obligation and that, therefore, "it is essential to draw the community's attention" to the need to prevent and combat abuse.

"Given their greater vulnerability, the attention and action of all adults in reporting situations that they are aware of is especially important, by contacting the CPCJ -- Child and Youth Protection Commission -- in the child's area of residence", it appeals, emphasizing that the CPCJs follow, on average, "more than 70 thousand cases".

It also states that the CPCJs "carry out intense activity on these issues" and that, as in other years, during the month of April there will be "dozens of buildings and iconic spaces lit up in blue" throughout the country.

According to the National Commission, the month against abuse, which has the slogan "I will be what you give me...let it be love", was born from the story of an American grandmother, Bonnie Finney, who in 1989 tied a blue ribbon to her car antenna in homage to her grandson, who was a victim of abuse. The choice of colour referred to the colour of the bruises on her grandson's body.
