Five suspects for suspected environmental crimes in Vieira de Leiria
The National Republican Guard (GNR) announced today that it has identified five suspects for environmental crimes in Vieira de Leiria, in the municipality of Marinha Grande.

In a statement, the GNR's Leiria Territorial Command announced that it had detained a man and constituted four defendants, aged between 28 and 74, for the alleged practice of crimes against nature, with the detainee, for possession of drugs, being constituted defendant and released.
According to the statement, as part of an investigation that had been ongoing for about a year, members of the Nature and Environment Protection Service carried out investigations that "allowed to establish that the suspects were engaged in the capture and marketing of protected species".
The GNR fulfilled 11 search warrants, four at homes and seven in vehicles, in the town of Vieira de Leiria, having seized 1,040 euros in cash, 36 doses of hashish, 11 oxygenators, a laptop computer, a 'tablet' and 10 mobile phones.
According to the GNR, nine sets of fishing boots and suits, a 400-liter plastic tank and two precision scales were also confiscated, in addition to various fishing and capture gear, and the equipment for its construction.
A GNR source explained to the Lusa agency that two defendants are retired and the others have no known professional activity.
This action was reinforced by military personnel from the Leiria Environmental Protection Unit, the Monte Redondo Territorial Post, the Leiria Intervention Detachment and the Leiria and Caldas da Rainha Criminal Investigation Units.
