The protesters, mostly students, accused the police of aggression during the demonstration, which included elements of the environmental movement "Fridays for Future" and which was also convened in favor of Palestine.

In front of the headquarters of the Federico II University, banners were placed with the phrases: "War outside universities", "Fossils out of war" and also against the Italian oil company Eni.

The demonstrators tried to approach the port to catch a ferry to Capri, where the meeting of the leaders of the group of seven most developed economies in the world is taking place, the march having been repelled by the riot police at the gates of the Calata Porta di Massa pier.

The G7 foreign ministers today reiterated their opposition to an Israeli military offensive in Rafah and urged Israel to guarantee the conditions to "resolve the devastating and growing humanitarian crisis" in the Gaza Strip.

At the end of a three-day meeting held on the Italian island of Capri, the Foreign Ministers of the group formed by Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom, plus the European Union (EU), also recognize "the crucial role played by UN agencies and other humanitarian actors in providing assistance", arguing that UNRWA (the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees) should be allowed to play its "vital role" in the humanitarian response.

Reiterating the strong condemnation of the "terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas and other terrorist groups against Israel" last October, the G7 ministers stressed that "in exercising its right to defend itself, Israel must fully respect international law, including international humanitarian law".
