Roy Keane appeared on the Stick to Football podcast on Thursday alongside Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright, where he admitted he was not the role model many believed him to be during his time at Manchester United.

"People used to say I was a great professional... Some of my carry-on was f****** ridiculous," the former Republic of Ireland international said, revealing that the situation was worse when the Red Devils did not have a game in midweek.

"I would drink, certainly on a Saturday. Definitely on a Sunday. A lot of the time it would start on a Saturday night after the game and I'd finish on a Tuesday night. Whatever way you want to dress it up, that's alcoholism. I had a drink problem," he added.

The former midfielder spent the majority of his playing career at Old Trafford, joining from Nottingham Forest in 1993 and leaving for Celtic in 2006.
