José Enrique did not hold back in his criticism of Darwin Núñez on Wednesday, a player that Liverpool acquired from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for 75 million euros, which could rise to 100 million euros if certain objectives are met.

The Uruguayan international has scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists in the 47 official matches he has played for Jurgen Klopp this season, but in the opinion of the former Spanish left-back, who played for the Reds between 2011 and 2016, he still does not justify such a high investment.

"Darwin Núñez is simply not at the required level, and never has been. He is a good player, I like him a lot and the fans love him, but he is not at the level of some of Liverpool's best forwards in the past," he said, as quoted by British newspaper Mirror.

"He could play for many of the best teams in Europe, but he is not good enough for those fighting for trophies. Their former attacking trio was one of the best in the world, but now they only have two goalscorers. Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota," he added.
