Education Minister wants an agreement "as soon as possible"

The Education Minister, Fernando Alexandre, stressed that he hopes to reach an agreement with the sector’s unions “as quickly as possible”, after having met with 12 different trade union bodies in the area, on Thursday and this Friday, when he talked to the Fenprof and FNE.

“It’s the only way we can ensure that the next school year is, in fact, different”, he told journalists from the Ministry of Education, stating that “this is what families are expecting and the Government’s main goal” and that “this is what the teachers want”.

“This instability harms them more than anyone else, in addition to the students themselves and the families”, continued Fernando Alexandre, who stated that the Government intends to “guarantee the return during the legislature”, with part of it being returned “this year so that the teachers feel that there is a commitment”.

“We have every interest in it being as quickly as possible. The willingness of the unions to quickly find solutions that are consensual, so that we can close the agreement, will go through this”, he reiterated, preferring not to propose any dates for the first phase of recovering the frozen service time of the teachers, which was one of the electoral promises of the Democratic Alliance (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), currently in Government after winning the legislative elections of 10 March.
