Cascais Line closed down on the Oeiras-Cascais section on Sunday morning

The Cascais Line railway service will be interrupted, on the Oeiras-Cascais section, on Sunday, between 05:30 and 08:40, as a result of modernization works, announced today by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP).

In the press release, the IP also underlined that "during this period alternative road transport will not be provided".

"We appreciate your understanding for any inconvenience that the temporary suspension of rail traffic may cause, which is necessary to allow the continuation of the works being carried out, to improve the levels of quality, efficiency and safety of the public rail transport service on the Cascais Line", it also explained.

Rail traffic on the Cascais Line has been subject to restrictions in recent weeks, following a fire that occurred on 19 March at the Cais do Sodré electrical substation, caused by a cabling manoeuvre as part of works on the Lisbon Metro.

Since that date, train traffic has remained restricted, with a reduced service and stops at all stations, as confirmed to Lusa by a source from CP -- Comboios de Portugal.

The same source said in early April that six trains run during rush hour and three per hour outside this period.

The causes of the fire, according to the same source, "are not related to the modernisation works on the Cascais Line, which are underway, nor do they affect the normal course of these works, which are currently taking place between the municipalities of Oeiras and Cascais".
