Arrested for uncontrolled burn that caused fire in Penamacor

A man was detained on Wednesday by the National Republican Guard (GNR) due to a forest fire in the municipality of Penamacor.
According to the GNR in a statement, the guards received an alert for a fire. The military went "immediately to the site and found that it had originated negligently", since the suspect was burning without authorization on an agricultural property.
The fire ended up getting out of control and caused a fire that consumed the vegetation around it. In addition to the GNR, the Emergency Protection and Relief Unit (UEPS) and the Volunteer Firefighters of Penamacor and Idanha-a-Nova were also on site.
The GNR also warned that burning and burning are the main causes of fires in Portugal and that they are always prohibited when there is a risk of rural fire.
