A rare Lego piece lost at sea for more than 25 years has washed up on a beach in Cornwall, England. Liutauras, 13, found the plastic octopus on Marazion beach on the Mount's Bay coast after a two-year search.

The Lego piece was one of many lost at sea after the container ship Tokio Express, which had set sail from Japan in 1997, lost 62 containers overboard in a storm before docking in Southampton, England.

One of those containers was filled with Lego pieces – many of them sea-themed figures, ironically.

The loss created a giant "jigsaw puzzle" at sea and the toys continue to wash up on shores. Some people collect them or use them to create art. For some, "it's a full-time job".

The teenager, who regularly visits the beach with his parents, said he was "so excited" by the find and has now collected nearly 800 pieces of Lego lost at sea in the spillage, the BBC reports.

However, his father, Vytautas, said an octopus "was the one to find". "We didn't expect to find one because they are so rare," he added.

Liutauras said his next mission is to find one of the 33,941 dragons lost overboard in the incident.

Tracey Williams, who is part of the 'Lego Lost At Sea' project, which has spent years trying to track the plastic pieces since they were lost at sea, said the octopus is often referred to as the "holy grail" of finds.

She said she has only ever found one octopus, back in 1997. "I think there's something quite magical about the octopus," she said.
