Four Portuguese friends replicate (on wheels) Vasco da Gama's route
The group is composed by Luís Toscano, Hélio Santos, Pedro Costa and Miguel Rodrigues, who will travel through the Indian cities linked to Vasco da Gama in four motorbikes "renamed" with the name of the primitive ships of the adventure.

A group of four motorcyclists began, last Monday, a trip to the cities visited by the Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama, in a project entitled 'Rota de Gama'.
The group is composed of Luís Toscano, Hélio Santos, Pedro Costa and Miguel Rodrigues, who will travel through the cities of India linked to Vasco da Gama on four motorcycles "renamed" with the name of the primitive ships of the adventure: S. Gabriel, S. Rafael, Berrio and S. Miguel.
The trip "aims to mark the 500 years of the death of Vasco da Gama, which will be celebrated in 2024", revealed the municipality of Sines, in a statement on the website, which is one of the institutional partners of the project.
Before leaving, Miguel Rodrigues revealed, in statements to the municipality, "that the trip follows other adventure trips on wheels inspired by Portuguese navigators".
However, the initial plans to travel through Europe, the Middle East and South Asia were changed due to the situation in Gaza and the reactivation of the conflict between Iran and Pakistan.
"These situations forced us to rethink the route. So, we will fly to Delhi, where we have four Royal Enfield Himalayan models waiting for us. We will take the motorcycles and visit the five cities of Gama in India, going down through Diu, Damão, Goa, Calicut, Cochin, ending the trip at the Royal Enfield factory in Chennai", he explained.
The mayor of Sines, Nuno Mascarenhas, classified this trip as "a remarkable moment in the year" in which the 500 years of Vasco da Gama's death are celebrated.
The group also created a page on Instagram and Facebook with the name of the project, to give the public the opportunity to follow the adventures and misadventures of the four friends.
