"In a phone call tonight, the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Lula da Silva, who was having dinner at the residence of the Portuguese ambassador in Brasília, regretting not being able to be present in Lisbon, congratulated President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and, through him, the Portuguese people, on the 50th anniversary of April 25, which restored freedom and allowed for the construction of democracy, referring to the impact that the Portuguese revolution also had on the end of the dictatorship in Brazil", reads a note released today.

According to the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic, "the phone call confirmed and renewed the excellent relations between the two heads of state and the two brother countries".

In the same note, published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic on the Internet, it is mentioned that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, was present at the dinner offered by the Head of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on Thursday night, at the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, in Lisbon.

At that dinner, Mauro Vieira read "a message from the Brazilian President in the same sense" quoting verses from the song 'Tanto Mar', by Chico Buarque: "The party was beautiful, man / I was happy / I still stubbornly keep / An old carnation for me".

The dinner at the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda was attended by the presidents of Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste, who had previously spoken at a commemorative session of the 50th anniversary of April 25, at the Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, at the invitation of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
