Santiago de Compostela sang 'Grândola' in unison on April 25

It was in the city where Zeca Afonso publicly sang for the first time the theme that would become one of the "passwords" of the Carnation Revolution, that the people of Galicia united and sang "Grândola Vila Morena" on the 50th anniversary of April 25.

Mundo 25 de Abril

It was in Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia, that for the first time - in May 1972 - Zeca Afonso sang the song that would become, almost two years later, one of the 'passwords' of 25 April: 'Grândola, Vila Morena'. Yesterday, and on the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, the people came together again to sing one of the hymns of freedom in Portugal.

It was the municipality of Santiago de Compostela itself, in Spain, that organized the moment - in order to join the celebrations that took place this Thursday in all the cities, towns and villages of our country.

"Defying the rain on this April 25, to participate in the collective singing of the hymn of freedom, 'Grândola, Vila Morena', in the same place where Zeca Afonso sang it live for the first time", he wrote in the caption of the video he published on social media.

In the comments, the Portuguese made a point of thanking the tribute, highlighting the "emotion" conveyed by the moment.
