The 49-year-old former Lazio, Inter Milan and Parma winger has six wins, against four for the 39-year-old former Benfica, Belenenses and Sporting de Braga midfielder, in a confrontation that also has four draws and also favours the Porto coach in terms of goals (19-14).

Conceição has always faced Amorim in charge of FC Porto, a club he joined in 2017/18, while the current coach of the I Liga leaders has two games in charge of Sporting de Braga, where he made his debut at the highest level in 2019/20.

This season, more precisely on 18 December 2023, the two coaches faced each other for the 14th time and Sporting won 2-0, in Alvalade.

Swedish Viktor Gyökeres, in the 11th minute, and Pedro Gonçalves, in the 60th, sealed the 'lions' 2-0 triumph, in a match of the 14th round of the I Liga 2023/24 marked by the expulsion of Porto centre-back Pepe, with a straight red card, in the 51st.

With this triumph, Amorim put an end to a series of five consecutive defeats and eight games without winning against Conceição, in a duel that even started favourably for the current 'lions' coach, who won the first two games, within a week, in January 2020, for Sporting de Braga.

On the 17th, the 'arsenalistas' won at the Dragão by 2-1, for the 17th round of the championship, with goals from Fransérgio and now 'lion' Paulinho, in a game in which FC Porto missed two penalties, and, on the 25th, in the League Cup final, the victory (1-0) was sealed by Ricardo Horta, in the 90+5 minute.

Also in the 2019/20 season, Amorim went to Alvalade and, as a 'lion', lost the first match against Conceição, who won 2-0, with goals from Danilo and Marega, and sealed, on 15 July 2020, the 29th championship title in the history of Porto -- now, on Sunday, it could be Sporting celebrating the 20th.

In the following season, marked by the covid-19 pandemic and Sporting's title, 19 years later, the 'lion' coach further extended the advantage, with one win and two draws.

The two matches for the I Liga ended in draws, with two goals in Alvalade and zero in the Dragão, and, in between, Sporting beat FC Porto 2-1 in the League Cup final.

On 19 January 2021, Malian Moussa Marega, with a goal in the 79th minute, gave the 'blue and whites' the advantage, but, in the final part, Cape Verdean Jovane Cabral, who had come on in the 78th, turned the game around, with a 'brace', signed in the 86th and 90+4th.

In 2021/22, the two championship games also ended in draws (1-1 in Alvalade and 2-2 in the Dragão), with Porto winning in the semi-finals of the Portuguese Cup, with victories by 2-1 in Lisbon and 1-0 in Porto.

The confrontation between Amorim and Conceição was even, with three wins for each side, but the FC Porto coach continued on his winning streak last season, adding three more.

The 'dragons' won at home by 3-0, in the third round of the championship, won by 2-0 in Leiria, in the League Cup final, and, in the second round of the I Liga, triumphed by 2-1 in Alvalade.

Conceição 'rules' against Amorim and, also counting the spells at Olhanense, Académica, Sporting de Braga and Vitória de Guimarães, also leads the overall record against Sporting, with 10 wins, 13 draws and seven defeats, in 30 games, losing only in goals (32-34).

The current Porto coach 'tied' the 'lions' once in each of the clubs he represented before joining the 'dragons', for whom he has 10 wins, nine draws and three defeats, with 28 goals scored and 18 conceded.

Rúben Amorim's 15th duel with FC Porto and his current coach, and Sérgio Conceição's 31st against Sporting, is scheduled for Sunday, at 8:30 pm, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, and counts for the 31st round of the I Liga 2023/24.
