Continental has already announced it will pay the fine.

In 2020, police searched Continental plants on suspicion that the group was an accomplice in the 'Dieselgate' case.

The case dates back to 2015, when Volkswagen admitted to having tampered with 11 million diesel cars, hiding the true level of their emissions.

Former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn will be tried in September, while former Audi CEO Rupert Stadler was sentenced in June to 21 months in prison and a fine of 1.1 million euros, a sentence he has appealed.

In a statement, Continental assured that it is "cooperating fully" with the Public Prosecutor's Office and that it will not appeal the decision.
