The owner of SpaceX shared, on Monday, a photo with Milei on the social network X (formerly Twitter), which he also owns, in which both appear with their thumbs up. It is the second meeting of both this year, at a time when Musk is interested in Argentina's large lithium reserves.

One of the headliners of the Milken Institute Global Conference, Musk was interviewed by Michael Milken himself in the most anticipated session of the first day, hours after Milei's speech.

"You cannot have democratic elections if people don't have access to information that allows them to make a good decision about a candidate or a party," said the businessman, who transformed Twitter into X and restored accounts previously banned for offenses such as racist speech, misinformation about vaccines, and homophobic attacks.

"If freedom of speech is restricted, we cannot expect people to make the right decision," Musk said.

In a session that lasted about half an hour, the world's second-richest man avoided talking about the automaker Tesla. He spoke about the plan to colonize Mars, the necessary reform in education, the dangers of excessive regulation, and immigration.

"I believe in immigration, but having uncontrolled immigration on a massive scale is a recipe for disaster," said Musk, who said he went to the US-Mexico border to see if there really was a crisis of illegal immigrants. "We need to make legal immigration more expeditious, but make the southern border secure," he added.

Musk also touched on one of the hottest topics of the decade, with the acceleration of the development of Artificial Intelligence technologies.

"AI may be the most important issue of all," he stressed. "The percentage of intelligence that is biological becomes smaller every month that passes. Eventually it will be less than 1%".

The 27th edition of the Milken Institute Global Conference, which runs until Wednesday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and is sometimes referred to as the "Davos of the West", also hosted Javier Milei, the right-wing populist who has presided over Argentina since December.

Milei gave a speech in which he urged businessmen and investors to bet on Argentina, saying that the country could be "the new Mecca of the West" and "the Rome of the 21st century".

The Argentine President published a photo with the Israeli flag, signaling support for the country and rapprochement with the West, and blamed socialism for poverty in Argentina.
