The decision was announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, but details of when the measure would take effect or whether it would be permanent were not immediately available, according to the U.S. news agency AP.
The vote comes amid the conflict between Israel and the channel, which worsened during the war with Hamas, and also at a time when Qatar is trying to help mediate a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza war.
Al Jazeera is one of the few international media outlets that remains in Gaza during the war, broadcasting graphic scenes of airstrikes and overwhelmed hospitals, accusing Israel of carrying out massacres, while Israel accuses the TV station of collaborating with Hamas.

Al Jazeera, founded by the Qatari government, did not immediately comment on the decision, writes the AP, noting that in the Arabic version, the news of the closure of the newsroom has already been released, while the English version continues to broadcast from Jerusalem, minutes after Netanyahu's announcement.
