O Union Berlin, club where the Portuguese Diogo Leite plays, has fired the Croatian coach Nenad Bjelica two days before the end of the German football league, at a time when he is fighting for maintenance, the club announced today.

Bjelica, who had already arrived at the Berlin emblem during the season, leaves Union in 15th place in the Bundesliga, just one point above the relegation zone.

The 52-year-old coach, who achieved only six wins in 22 games, will be replaced until the end of the season by Marco Grote, who returns to the position of interim coach after having already commanded the team after the departure of the Swiss Urs Fischer.

In the fight for survival in the Bundesliga, Diogo Leite's team, who is in the second season of the Germanic emblem, faces Cologne away and closes the season with the reception to Freiburg.

This season, Union Berlin played in the Champions League and was an opponent of Sporting de Braga in Group C, having finished in last place without any wins and with only two draws.
