The book 'Is This Poetry?', the second work by Fernando Casimiro, is launched today in Lisbon and tells of the "inspirations and experiences" of someone who "has been writing for many years" and who takes nothing in life for granted.

In a statement to Lusa, the author, who turns 62 on Tuesday, said that he lived for "over 30 years on the streets" as a homeless person, and is now fully integrated into society, living in a 'housing first' response located in the Lisbon neighbourhood of Graça.
In his first published work, "Provavelmente Venci" (I Probably Won), Fernando Casimiro tells the story of his life, recounting "experiences and events".
"Now I am fully recovered, and have been for years. I was addicted to every possible drug," he confided, acknowledging at the same time that he had overcome his addiction, although he does not take anything for granted.
"Everyone knows that I have overcome my addiction, and so do I, but there is a line, a kind of doubt for society, and so we have to put a question mark, nothing is guaranteed," he stressed.
Fernando Casimiro also said that he does not work now and spends his days "walking, strolling" to gain inspiration for writing, confiding that he already has more books ready, but needs publishers to launch them, as he does not have the financial means to do so.
"Now I like to walk, I didn't before. But there are changes in our life, now I like to write, I have been writing for many, many years," he said.
"Isto é Poesia?" (Is This Poetry?) is a work supported by the Homeless Planning and Intervention Centre (NPISA Lisboa) of the Department of Social Rights, and also by the Culture Department of Lisbon City Council and Imprensa Municipal.
The book launch is scheduled for 3 pm today at Casa do Jardim da Estrela -- Um Teatro em Cada Bairro (in Jardim da Estrela) and will be attended by the Councillor for Social Rights, Sofia Athayde, as well as the entire municipal team and partners who, directly or indirectly, contributed to the social and professional rehabilitation of the writer.
