A couple who fought back against muggers in Uberlândia, Brazil, beating up the attackers, in a moment that went viral on social media, have spoken about what happened and revealed they had just bought the car the robbers tried to steal. 

Speaking to G1, Luísa Alexandra and Fênix Oliveira said they had received 16,000 reais (more than 2,800 euros) from a country singer and used the money to buy the vehicle that appears in the video.

"I work as a waitress in a bar that the singer often visits. I was serving the table where he was with his wife and friends. He liked me a lot, we even cried together. He asked me what I was going to work with and I told him it was on a motorbike with my husband. Then he asked how much my dream bike cost. I said it was 16,000 reais and he sent me the money via Pix right away, as well as a tip of 1,000 reais," said Luísa, adding that the singer asked her to honour the promise.

So, the woman decided to make the most of the money and, instead of buying a motorbike, she bought a car, thinking it would help the family. 

The day after they bought the vehicle, the couple decided to test out the new car and that's when the muggers appeared. "I had just got home from work around 2 am and called him to go for a drive in the car. He waited for me in the car and I went back inside the house to get my bag. When I came back, I saw the motorbike with the bandits," she revealed.

"When we realised they weren't armed, we decided to fight back. It's something I don't recommend anyone doing, but I couldn't lose the car I had just bought, I didn't even have insurance yet," she added.

The incident happened in the early hours of 20 May. In the video the woman can be seen returning to the car, where the man was waiting. At that moment, a motorbike drives past and the suspects approach the couple.

In the footage, the suspects can be seen pulling the man out of the driver's seat and starting to push him. The man eventually fights back and starts to attack one of the muggers. The other suspect tries to get back on the motorbike, but is kicked by the man. At this point, the woman also starts to attack one of the robbers.

The fight lasted for about two minutes, while the suspects tried to escape, but without success. A neighbour joined the couple and, shortly afterwards, one of the muggers fled on foot and the other used the motorbike to escape.

It should be noted that the authorities advise against fighting back in this type of situation, as the suspects may be armed.
